Forbes Advisor uses data from various government agencies to determine both basic incomes and spending averages in various categories. The 70th percentile of salaried households brings in $100,172 a year and has $52,820 in standard expenses. Assuming that 50% of these expenses are charged to this card, the total annual card expenses would be $26,410.
Based on this, we estimate, based on the data, that the average US household spends about $3,185 on travel and $2,687 on gas per year, gaining 26,673 points. Our sample household also spends $10,093 on restaurants, including takeout and delivery, and grocery expenses, yielding an additional 20,186 points; $443 on streaming services that would earn 886 points. The remaining spend of $10,002 will earn one point per dollar for an additional 10,002 points. In total, a total of 57,747 points, worth $577, plus the first year welcome bonus can be earned on the card.
